The Island Health Division of Infectious Diseases – Central and North Island is seeking a full-time locum physician to cover parental leave, including for June 2025 (1 month), as well as December 2025 – February 2026 (3 months). This is to extend a locum that has been posted for another group member’s parental leave; we are also seeking applicants available July – November 2025. Applicants interested in covering all or some subset of the time are welcome to apply.

We are a collegial division of 4 full time ID physicians providing full scope ID services in Central and Northern Vancouver Island. Our practice is based at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, clinical space and administrative support is provided with no overhead. Clinical responsibilities include call Monday-Friday 0800-1800 (covering inpatients in Nanaimo and providing advice for inpatients in other Central/North Island hospitals as well as outpatients in urgent care centres, GP offices etc.), and an OPAT service at NRGH which operates Monday to Friday, generally only during the morning. Clinical space is provided for outpatient follow up, as well as urgent outpatient consults (and as a home base while on call). We are supported in hospital by a dedicated local ID/AMS pharmacist, robust home IV program, and our medical daycare nursing and administrative staff. There is an outpatient HIV nurse who supports HIV services. We also provide in-person outreach services in Comox and in Campbell River each twice monthly.
