PARENTAL OR MEDICAL LEAVE

Can I place my membership on hold?
AMMI Canada does not allow memberships to be placed on hold. However, Active Members taking parental or medical leave for six (6) or more months are eligible for a membership fee reduction for up to 12 months at one time. A membership fee reduction suspends certain member benefits during the leave, including discounted page submission fees to AMMI Canada’s journal (JAMMI) and annual conference discounts.

AMMI Canada members whose membership is in the fee reduction period will still be able to access the members-only section of the AMMI Canada website, and will not be limited in their ability to receive listservs or access other online resources associated with their membership. Members serving on the AMMI Canada board of directors, committees or other working groups at the time of the leave, are expected to inform the AMMI Canada Secretariat of their intent /ability to continue actively participating or to request a hiatus.

The fee reduction period must begin and end within a calendar year – between January 1 and December 31. The secretariat must be informed within 30 days of the leave commencement for the reduction to be applicable. Fee reductions are not retroactive. If a fee reduction request encompasses dates across two (2) years, the fee reduction period will apply to the year in which the majority of the leave will be taken. For example, if a member’s parental leave is scheduled to begin in November 2020 and end in November 2021, the fee reduction period would apply from January to November 2021 (during the 2021 calendar year).

To request a fee reduction for your membership, please contact membership@ammi.ca and provide details. Active Member dues are payable at a reduced rate of 50% for the year in which the leave occurs. Regular membership dues will automatically be applied to the following calendar year. Fee reduction is meant to offer some relief of dues to members with decreased capacity to generate revenue for medical or parental purposes and are applicable for a single calendar year per leave, even if the duration of the leave is more than 12 months.
