Infectious Diseases / HIV Physician

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for an Infectious Diseases / HIV Physician to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital.  Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.

Key accountabilities of the Infectious Diseases / HIV Physician will include, but will not be limited to inpatient ID consultation (minimum 10 weeks per year), ambulatory care, including general ID clinics and OPAT, and participation in an equitable share of afterhours call. The successful candidate will be expected to have training or experience in the care of persons living with HIV and to focus their ambulatory practice in this field of practice. The Northern Alberta Program (NAP) provides multidisciplinary care to over 2400 individuals living with HIV. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication and team-based care.  Other areas of clinical interest, including but not limited to management of patients with chronic viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, or STIs may be incorporated into the role. Clinical teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees, including Infectious Diseases subspecialty residents is also expected. Contribution to clinical leadership opportunities in the Division and/or at the site is also expected.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent.  He or she will be eligible for certification in Infectious Diseases with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada.  As well, he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
