MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGIST
Kelowna General Hospital - Kelowna, BCThe Kelowna General Hospital’s (KGH) Medical Microbiology group is seeking an enthusiastic and hardworking member to join the regional medical microbiology team full-time. Our ideal candidate is a medical microbiologist and experienced in the microbiology lab with procedure development, equipment verification and Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) (preferably as a consultant); someone that is innovative and passionate about improving patient care and quality in a supportive and collaborative team environment.
The KGH medical microbiology group runs a busy, clinically oriented service, providing medical consultation to regional physicians, and overseeing 3 medical microbiology laboratories located in Kelowna, Cranbrook and Trail, which serve 16 hospitals across the region. The group also provides vacation relief and on-call coverage to a fourth microbiology laboratory located in Kamloops. Medical oversight of regional Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) is also performed by the KGH group.
You will join a well-established, collegial group, and will split your time between laboratory and IPAC based work. As a team member, you will share microbiology/IPAC day call with the 4 other KGH microbiologists (1:5), but evening/weekend on call will be shared between the 6 regional microbiologists (1:6). The remainder of your time off call will be split between activities to support oversight of the microbiology laboratory and IPAC program. This role will require participation in regional committees, and will require regional travel.
Qualifications:
• Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) in Medical Microbiology
• Doctorate in Medicine
• Full (or Eligible for) Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia
• CMPA Coverage
