The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) provides provincial and national leadership in public health through surveillance, detection, prevention, and consultation and provides both direct diagnostic and treatment services to people with diseases of public health importance.

Come join one of Canada’s best Public Health facilities in one of the world’s most beautiful cities! The BC Centre for Disease Control in Vancouver, BC, is currently seeking to hire a physician Medical Microbiologist.

The BCCDC PHL is a full-service laboratory that receives about 5,000 samples a day and has a menu of about 500 different tests. The laboratory has three CL-3 laboratories, a comprehensive biosafety program and a molecular microbiology and genomics team that is transforming public health microbiology.

You’ll be working in a supportive environment with other medical and clinical microbiologists, infectious disease physicians, epidemiologists, research scientists, statisticians, and mathematical modellers. Through the use of state of the art molecular, genomics and metagenomics tools you will be expected to develop an independent applied research program that advances the field of microbiology. This will support your ability to provide up-to-date clinical microbiology and policy advice. A functional knowledge of bioinformatics is advantageous. Candidates will need to be eligible for a Partnership Affiliation with the University of British Columbia at an Assistant, Associate or Professor level and provide some undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate trainee teaching.
