Medical Microbiologist-Infectious Diseases Specialist
William Osler Health System -Brampton, ONThe Infectious Diseases – Microbiology Program at William Osler Health System consists of five ID physicians and one Medical Microbiologist across 3 campuses (Brampton Civic, Etobicoke General Hospital and Peel Memorial Centre). The program is supported by the Microbiology Laboratory, the Infection Prevention & Control Team, a Clinical Epidemiologist, and an Antimicrobial Stewardship team. Osler’s ID-Micro Program anticipates expansion with the ongoing redevelopment of EGH and the expansion of the Peel Memorial Campus and is looking to recruit an Infectious Diseases Physician who will also provide Medical Microbiology services.
Candidates must be licensed to practice Medicine in Ontario (CPSO) and be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with an FRCP(C) Certificate of Competency in Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology in addition to being eligible for credentialling at the William Osler Health System.
The successful physician should be highly motivated and flexible to transition into new roles as program and corporate needs evolve. Through a combination of clinical and laboratory initiatives they will work collaboratively with the current Microbiology and ID consultants, lab personnel and pharmacists. For candidates with academic interests, Osler provides growing clinical research opportunities. Teaching opportunities also exist within Osler’s training partnership with McMaster University and the future Toronto Metropolitan University-Osler Medical School.
The consultant should demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills in English and possess the essential qualities of a specialist consultant including approachability, availability and collegiality. Additional languages are considered an asset as we serve a highly diverse population. Opportunities to enrich Osler’s ID program with the creation of, or participation in, specialized clinics in Travel/Tropical Medicine, HIV, Tuberculosis, and an Outpatient Antibiotic Clinic may become available. Additional training in HIV, Tropical Medicine, TB or other specialized areas within Infectious Diseases would be considered beneficial.
