Pan American Society of Clinical Virology

The Pan American Society for Clinical Virology (PASCV) fosters the scientific development and medical practice of viral diagnostic testing. PASCV also endeavors to increase understanding of all aspects of human viral diseases, including human viral biology, disease manifestations, pathogenesis, immunity, epidemiology, treatment and prevention.

PASCV Latin America Meeting
September 10-11 | Panama City, Panama

The Pan-American Society for Clinical Virology (PASCV), in conjunction with the Latin American Confederation of Clinical Biochemistry (COLABIOCLI), the National Association of Clinical Laboratory Technologists of Panama (CONALAC) and the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, has organized a scientific activity prior to the XXIV Latin American Congress of Clinical Biochemistry (September 10-11, 2019), with the goal of reinforcing the technical and practical aspects of the diagnostic virology laboratory. This event is aimed at directors of clinical laboratories, laboratory technologists, physician trainees, and specialists in infectious diseases.

A day and a half of lectures by experts from the US and other Latin American countries includes general discussions related to organization and function of clinical virology laboratories, and specific talks on the diagnosis of bloodborne viruses, papilloma virus, and arboviruses, among others. Clinical case presentations will provide an opportunity for interactive discussion regarding diagnostic challenges routinely encountered when caring for patients with viral infections.

Participants will gain not only knowledge of fundamentals in clinical virology, but have a unique opportunity to interact and collaborate with colleagues in similar diagnostic settings throughout Latin America.

Current Practices & Future Diagnostics for Transplant-Associated Viral Infections
September 27 | Chicago, IL

This interactive meeting will provide an in-depth review of patient risk factors, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of opportunistic viral infections in transplant recipients. Topics that will be covered include adenoviruses, BK and JC polyomaviruses, cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus, antiviral therapy and the challenge of drug resistance. This workshop will highlight best practices with respect to currently available testing modalities, therapeutic drug monitoring testing, detection of antiviral drug resistance, and the future of transplant-associated viral disease diagnostics.
