OCAP Training

The First Nations Information Governance Centre (FNIGC) has launched the "Fundamentals of OCAP®" learning module.

This comprehensive overview of the First Nations principles of OCAP® (Ownership, Control, Access and Possession) is a result of the requests they have received in recent years from First Nations, students, researchers, academics, federal officials and other interested individuals – nationally and internationally who are looking to gain a better understanding of OCAP® and how it pertains to principled research, data sovereignty, and information governance that respects First Nations.

We encourage AMMI Canada members who are interested to VISIT THE FNIGC WEBSITE for more information and to register for this training.

The cost for the course is $249 +GST/HST.

4th Biennial Indigenous Health Conference

(May 21-23, 2020 at the Sheraton Niagara Falls, Niagara Falls)

This interdisciplinary conference will bring together Indigenous peoples, health care providers, researchers and experts in the field who are working to address the huge health disparities between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

The focus for this year’s conference is the future and how we can cultivate the youth as tomorrow’s leaders and agents of change. Topics will include youth leadership, suicide prevention, impact of colonization, murdered and missing Indigenous women, determinants of health, and Indigenous ways of knowing.  Through this conference we hope to create better educated, more culturally safe health care providers for Indigenous peoples and to nurture the future leaders in healthcare for Indigenous communities.

CPHO Health Professional Forum: Indigenous Health Sub-Group Update

AMMI Canada is one of the organizations participating in the CPHO Health Professional Forum: Indigenous Health Sub-Group. The Sub-Group is in the process of developing a Common Definitions on Cultural Safety document. The intent of the document is to provide clarity to health professional on the meaning of terms, and help  ensure that health professionals looking to engage meaningfully in health and healthcare improvement for Indigenous Peoples are aware of appropriate terminology. As soon as the document is available, we will be sharing it with AMMI Canada membership.
